Dr. Charles Blackstock
In 1979, our Pastor, Charles Blackstock, was attending Georgia Tech where he was studying for a degree in engineering. In 1992 he received his Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Education. In 1993 he finished his studies toward a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. Finally, in 2000 he was walking the aisle for a Doctorate in Pastoral Theology. God laid on his heart to start a church in Dawsonville, GA. On October 10th, 1999, Lighthouse Baptist Church had its first meeting in a restaurant called The Fisherman’s Net. Despite the unusual location, the church began to grow and God again blessed our Pastor’s faithfulness.

High School Chemistry
Dr. Carley Haulk
Carley Haulk, Ph.D., was born in East Taunton Massachusetts. She moved to North Carolina when she was 8 years old. She attended North Carolina State University for her bachelors of science degree in Chemistry. She completed her doctorate at Florida State in Analytical Chemistry. She has taught chemistry labs at the college level for 6 years cumulatively. She finds teaching most rewarding when her students have breakthroughs (or light bulb moments) on material they find difficult. She looks at education as a puzzle and believes that when students have the right pieces they can make their image and therefore the understanding of a concept complete. When she is not in the classroom you can find her nose in a book.

Mrs. Karen Johnston grew up in small-town Alabama. Like many southern women, she believes in the fundamentals of Faith, Family, Food, and Football. (Roll Tide!)
Karen has been married to her husband, Jeff, for over 17 years and has served beside him in the youth ministry for 15 of those years. She earned her BS in Elementary Education and used her degree to homeschool their 2 children, substitute for their Christian school in NC, and teach math for Lighthouse in 2020.
One of Karen’s philosophies is: we are not to raise kids; we are to train capable young adults.

In Atlanta I was an active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where I served as a youth counselor. I attended Asbury University, a small christian school in Wilmore, Kentucky. During my college years I also served at Camp Glisson, Methodist church camp in Dahlonega. At Camp Glisson I was a counselor, a section leader, and the summer camp director. After college I went to work for Dekalb County Schools in Atlanta. I started my career teaching at an alternate school for expelled middle and elementary school children. I also spent several years teaching kindergarten in Dekalb County Schools. During this time I earned a Master’s Degree in Reading Instruction. I am a reading specialist. It was always my dream to live in Dahlonega. So, in 1999 I traded the city for the mountains and moved to Dahlonega, Georgia. I have spent the last twenty years teaching first and second grades.
